NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware freshman Braden Shattuck was named to the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Golf Second Team, it was announced by the league on Thursday.

Shattuck, a native of Aston, Pa. (Sun Valley HS), appeared in all 11 tournaments during his rookie year and set a UD freshman record with a 74.45 average round. He posted six top-10 finishes during the year, including four straight during the spring season.

Shattuck became the first Blue Hen freshman to earn medalist honors by carding a 68-72-74-214 at the Villanova Wildcat Invitational on April 1-2, a performance that earned him CAA Co-Men’s Golfer of the Week honors. He was Delaware’s top finisher in five other tournaments as well, while he shot a 69 during his final round at the Longwood Manor Intercollegiate on April 13.

Delaware has now been represented on the All-CAA Men’s Golf Team for the fourth consecutive year, as Justin Martinson was a second team selection in 2010 and a first team pick in 2011, while Greg Matthias earned second team honors a year ago.

Payne McLeod of UNCW was named the CAA Men’s Golfer of the Year, while Chris Crawford of Drexel was selected the Rookie of the Year and Mike Dynda of Drexel earned Coach of the Year honors.
