Blue Hen Senior Ben Conroy Earns University of Delaware Menís Golf Charlie Horn Grinder Award

NEWARK, Del. -- Blue Hen men’s golf head coach Mike Keogh has announced that Ben Conroy has earned the University of Delaware Charlie Horn Grinder Award for the 2012-13 season.

Conroy, a native of Durham, Conn., recently completed his two-year career in Newark and served as the Blue Hens’ team captain during his senior season He was one of three Blue Hens to compete in all 11 tournaments this year, ranking second on the squad with a 75.83 average round. Conroy was the Blue Hens’ top finisher during three tournaments in 2012-13, including season-best 10th place finishes at the George Mason Patriot Intercollegiate on Sept. 28-29 and the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Apr. 26-28.

A two-year letterwinner, Conroy currently ranks fifth in Delaware history with a 75.49 average round. He led the Blue Hens with a 75.21 stroke average as a junior, and posted six top-10 finishes during his career.

The Grinder Award is presented by former Blue Hens standout golfer and contributor to the program Charlie Horn. Charlie was a three-year letterwinner for head coach Scotty Duncan in 1971-75 and served as co-captain of the 1975 squad that placed second at the Eastern Championships.

Conroy is the seventh Blue Hen to earn the Grinder Award, which was established following the 2006-07 season.
