NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware men’s golf head coach Mike Keogh has announced that Blue Hen rising senior Dan Costenbader and junior Niño Rosal have been named team captains for the 2013-14 season.
Costenbader (at right), a native of Palmerton, Pa. (Palmerton), recently completed his third season as a member of the Blue Hens. He appeared in all but two tournaments for Delaware, ranking fifth on the team with a 77.83 average round. Costenbader posted three top 20 finishes on the season, while his 78.27 average during the spring was the third lowest by a Blue Hen. He carded a season-low 71 during the opening round of the Villanova Wildcat Invitational on April 1 en route to a 17th place finish, his best of the year.
“During his first three years Dan has made tremendous progression both in his golf ability and leadership skills, and we look forward to his leadership again in September,” Keogh said.
Rosal (at left), a native of Camden, Del. (Caesar Rodney), was one of three Blue Hens to compete in all 11 tournaments this past year, when he ranked fourth on UD with a 77.69 average round. He led Delaware by tying for fourth place at the Rhody Invitational on April 6-7, while he carded a season-low round of 71 at the ODU Outer Banks Intercollegiate on October 23. Rosal posted a 72-78-150 at the Navy Fall Classic on September 8-9, the lowest two-round score of his career.
“Niño has a great relationship with everybody on the team, and with four freshmen entering our program in the fall, he will be a great asset in helping them get acclimated to Delaware both athletically and academically,” Keogh stated.
