WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The University of Delaware men’s golf team opened its 2013 spring season by finishing in 12th place at the UNCW Seahawk Intercollegiate on Sunday and Monday.

The Blue Hens opened with a 313 team score during their opening round, before carding a 331 in the second to finish with a two-round score of 644. UNCW won the 12-team tournament with a 604 score, while Kent State was one shot behind in second. Maryland placed third at 609, Coastal Carolina finished fourth at 612, and Campbell and Davidson tied for fifth at 617.

Delaware freshman Kyle Martin (at right)finished in a tie for 34th place in the individual standings after he carded a 14 over par 77-81-158 on the 72, 6,877-yard Nicklaus Golf Course at the Country Club of Landfall. Sophomore Niño Rosal fired an 18 over par 77-85-162 to tie for 50th place, while freshman Braden Shattuck recorded a 19 over par 78-85-163 as he finished in a tie for 53rd place.

UD junior Dan Costenbader tied for 56th place after his 20 over par score of 83-81-164, while senior Ben Conroy carded a 21 over par 81-84-165 to tie for 59th place at the tournament.

Payne McLeod of UNCW was the medalist at the invitational following his one under par 72-71-143, while three players finished five shots back.

The Blue Hens return to action on Apr. 1-2 when they compete in the Villanova Wildcat Invitational at White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa.
