WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The University of Delaware men’s golf team opens its 2013 spring season this weekend when the Blue Hens compete in the UNCW Seahawk Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Landfall.

Two rounds are scheduled for Sunday with the final round slated for Monday on the par 72, 6,877-yard Nicklaus Golf Course. The tournament features 12 teams including UNCW, Maryland, Campbell, Old Dominion, VCU, Columbia, Davidson, Kent State, Coastal Carolina, Ohio State, East Carolina, and the Blue Hens.

The Blue Hens, led by 12th-year head coach Mike Keogh, are looking to build on a strong fall season in which Delaware posted four top 10 finishes and placed a season-best fourth at the Joe Agee Invitational on Sept. 24-25.

Freshman Braden Shattuck (at right) led the Blue Hens with a 73.14 average round during the fall season, and recorded a pair of top 10 finishes including a season-best third at the Navy Fall Classic. Senior captain Ben Conroy ranked second on the squad with a 73.57 stroke average, while freshman Kyle Martin averaged 75.45 shots per round.

Following the Seahawk Invitational, the Blue Hens will be competing in the Villanova Wildcat Invitational at White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa. in Apr. 1-2. Delaware will then participate in the Rhody Invitational at Green Valley Golf Club in Portsmouth, R.I. on Apr. 6-7, before competing in the Longwood Invitational at Manor Resort Golf Club in Farmville, Va. on Apr. 12-13.

The Blue Hens head to Annapolis to play in the Navy Spring Classic on Apr. 20-21, before closing out their season on Apr. 26-28 at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships at St. James Plantation Golf Course in Southport, N.C.
