ITHACA, N.Y. -- University of Delaware men’s golf incoming freshman Jack Gianniny captured the New York State Public High School Athletic Association golf championship earlier this week.

Gianniny, who attends Pittsford Sutherland High School in Pittsford, N.Y., finished the tournament with an even par 73-69-142 to post a three-shot victory at Cornell’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Ithaca.

Gianniny was tied with two other players heading into Monday’s final round, but quickly took control by posting birdies on four of the first five holes. Gianniny was tied through 14, but parred three consecutive holes before a birdie on 18 to secure the state title.

Gianniny also claimed the Section V Class A title at Ridgemont, and captured the Supersectional event at Oak Hill.

Additionally Gianniny has qualified for the prestigious Monroe Invitational Championship, which will be held at Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford, N.Y. on June 9-14.
