POWELLS POINT, N.C. -- The University of Delaware men’s golf team concluded its impressive 2016 fall season by finishing in sixth place at the Old Dominion Outer Banks Intercollegiate this week.

The Blue Hens fired a 286 score during Tuesday’s final round, placing sixth out of 18 squads with a three-round total of 863. Campbell, ranked No. 74 in the nation by GolfStat, captured the team title with an 845 score, while the host Monarchs finished just one shot back. Akron (#110) was third at 848, Ball State (#136) came in fourth at 853, and No. 35 UNCW placed fifth at 855.

UD junior Jack Gianniny carded an even par 71 during his final round on the par 71, 6,502-yard Kilmarlic Golf Course, tying for seventh place in the standings with a one over par score of 73-70-71-214. Classmate Blaine Lafferty fired the team’s low round of the afternoon with a one under par 70, tying for 18th place with a two over par 74-71-70-215.

Senior Marc Oliveri, who recorded a 75 during his final round, also tied for 18th place with a two over par 68-72-75-215. Junior Kieran Purcell carded a one over par 71 on Tuesday, tying for 32nd place at the tournament with a seven over par score of 73-76-71-220. Sophomore Mark Benevento fired a 74 during his final round, as he finished in a tie for 60th place at 78-77-74-229, 16 over par.

David Langley of Old Dominion was the invitational’s medalist with a nine under par 70-67-67-204, while Patrick Cover of UNCW finished two shots back.

“It’s very gratifying to have nine tournament rounds of out 12 in the 280’s this fall season, which is a record for Delaware men’s golf,” said Blue Hen head coach Mike Keogh. “The kids have worked really hard to make themselves into ‘players’. It was a great fall; we are already excited about the our championship season in the spring."
