OCEANSIDE, N.Y. – Senior Troy Beneck (Wilmington, Del.) notched his 70th career singles victory Saturday evening, but the University of Delaware men’s tennis team was unable to shake Hofstra University in a 4-3 loss at PointSet Indoor Tennis.

Beneck’s 6-3, 6-3 top flight win over Ari Richman ties him for first place in the Delaware record books with current Blue Hens associate head coach Austin Longacre, who finished his four-year UD career with a mark of 70-38.

Classmate Adam Lawton (Estepona, Spain) also collected a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Adrien Bailly in No. 2 singles while sophomore Tim Puterio (Kingston, R.I.) defeated Leo Pires, 6-1, 6-2 in the sixth flight.

In doubles play, Beneck and Lawton earned an 8-3 win against Richman and Bailly in the top flight, but the Pride (3-1, 1-0 CAA) recorded the team point.

POST-MATCH QUOTES
Head Coach Laura Travis
“Tonight’s match came down to the wire once again.  The seniors showed their experience in both singles and doubles play while the rest of the matches were battles.  Our younger players continue to show development, but Hofstra won key points to clinch the match.  We have ot keep our chins up and be persistent in practice and matches.  It’s just a matter of time until it all comes together.”
