WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The University of Delaware women’s tennis team has won three straight and looks to continue its victorious ways in this weekend’s Colonial Athletic Association Championships.

The Blue Hens are seeded fifth and will matchup against No. 4 James Madison at 3 p.m. Friday in the CAA quarterfinals.

A win over the Dukes would put Delaware in the semifinals with a 2 p.m. Saturday match against either No. 1 UNCW or No. 8 Hofstra.  The CAA women’s championship match is slated for 2 p.m. Saturday.

UD completed regular season action with records of 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the CAA and were led by seniors Dorothy Safron (at left; New York, N.Y.) and Olivia Heim (Gibsonia, Pa.) in addition to sophomore Carmen Lai (below right; Shatin, Hong Kong).

Lai finished the regular season with a team-best singles record of 18-12 while Heim and Safron tallied 15 and 14 wins, respectively.

Safron and Lai have also teamed up for a 16-9 doubles record and have won three consecutive for the Hens.  The pair is third in school history with a career mark of 30-21 over two seasons.

Plagued by the injury bug all season long, Delaware finally has a healthy squad and looks to make a run in the tournament.

Last season, the Blue Hens advanced to the semifinals before falling to the Tribe.

All of the CAA Tournament matches will be held at the College of William & Mary’s Mille West Tennis Facility.
