RICHMOND, Va. – Following a 7-0 team victory over Villanova and leading the way in top flight doubles action, University of Delaware junior Dorothy Safron (at right) and freshman Carmen Lai (below left) were named the Colonial Athletic Association Doubles Team of the Week.

The pair posted an 8-3 win over Villanova’s Mikelle Mancini and Tori Smyth this past Sunday at the Elkton (Md.) Indoor Tennis Courts.

For the season, Safron and Lai are 9-4 in the No. 1 doubles flight and 10-7 overall.

The Blue Hens are 5-1 on the year and off to their best start since 2011 when they won five out of six to open the season.

Also recognized on the women’s side, James Madison’s Katherine Bulling and UNCW’s Kelley Cameron shared CAA women’s Player of the Week honors.

UNCW senior Chris Cooprider and the James Madison duo of senior Ryan Pool and Robert Stirling earned CAA men’s tennis honors for the week. 

The Delaware women return to the court Thursday as they travel to Navy for a 2 p.m. match.
