At Navy’s Brigade Sports Complex, the Blue Hens fell early and were unable to make a comeback in the 5-2 deficit.
“Navy is a strong and deep squad,” remarked UD head coach Laura Travis. “In spite of the loss, this group of players is moving forward. We will stay focused to the progress and chip away at the details that need work.”
The Mids (17-3) swept the Blue Hens (5-2) in doubles play to take the team point and an early 1-0 advantage.
Navy immediately went up in the first three singles matches before Nataliya Naumova (at right) defeated Logan Antill 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 for the first win of the afternoon for the Hens.
Dorothy Safron followed with a win of her own as she went 6-4, 5-7, 10-3 over Darien Sears.
Kim Milla had a season-best eight game winning streak snapped with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Katie Porter in the sixth flight.
Delaware returns to the court Sunday as the Hens host Mount St. Mary’s at the Elkton Indoor Courts at 6 p.m. This match was originally scheduled for Monday, March 25 but was moved up due to weather and scheduling issues.
