NEWARK, Del. – While it wasn’t the final regular season home match, the University of Delaware women’s tennis team honored the Hens’ lone senior, Amanda Halstrom (at right), Saturday afternoon before defeating George Mason, 6-1, for the team’s fourth straight win at the Delaware Field House courts.

Halstrom improved to 5-2 on the season with a 6-2, 6-4 singles victory against Andrea London in the No. 6 spot.  The win was the second straight of the season for the senior, who now holds a career record of 45-20.

In other singles action, Dorothy Safron and Christina Harrington also continued their winning ways, each notching their four straight wins of the year.  Safron defeated Maya Hick, 6-1, 6-4 in No. 2 singles while Harrington picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ekaterina Desiatnikova, 6-1, 6-0 in the fifth flight.

In the top flight, Danea Jonjic’ tacked on a 7-6 (1), 6-1 victory against Brittany Pilkington to improve to 17-10 in her freshman campaign.

Wrapping up singles play, Nataliya Naumova won her third straight with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ashley Delaney in the third slot.

The Blue Hens (11-4, 4-1 Colonial Athletic Association) swept doubles action with three straight victories for the team point over the Patriots (7-2, 0-2 CAA). 

The reining CAA doubles team of the week in Jonjic’ and partner Kim Milla improved to 6-1 on the year with their fifth straight win as the duo defeated Hicks and London, 8-4.

In the second flight, Naumova and Harrington paired up for an impressive 8-1 win over Erdenesuren Erdenebat and Desiatnikova while Safron and Carmen Lai tripped up Delany and Pilkington, 8-5 in the top flight.

Delaware continues weekend play tomorrow as the Hens host James Madison in the regular season finale with an 11 a.m. match at the Delaware Field House Courts.

The Colonial Athletic Association Tournament will be held April 18-21 on the campus of William & Mary.
