WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Blue Hen redshirt freshman Liz Brock recorded the final of her career-high 19 kills to end the match as the University of Delaware volleyball team edged William & Mary, 3-2, in a five-set Colonial Athletic Association thriller Friday night at Kaplan Arena.

The Blue Hens, who snapped a modest two-match losing streak while improving to 10-8 overall and 2-2 in the conference, won by set scores of 21-25, 25-22, 14-25, 25-19, 21-19. The Tribe dropped to 6-14 overall and 1-3 in league play.

After splitting the first four sets, the Delaware and William & Mary went back and forth during a dramatic fifth set. The Blue Hens looked to be control when a Katie Hillman kill gave UD a 13-9 lead, but the Tribe battled back to knot the frame at 14-14.

Delaware then won the ensuing point and lost the next two, but the Blue Hens proceeded to fight off four match points to stay in the contest. Following two William & Mary attack errors that gave the Blue Hens a 20-19 lead, Brock slammed home the final kill to end the match.

Delaware, playing its seventh five-set match of the season, won its eighth consecutive match over William & Mary and has now captured its last six meetings in Kaplan Arena.

UD sophomore Ariel Shonk, who made a season-high 38 digs, went over the 1,000 career digs mark despite playing in just her second season in Newark. Brock led the offensive effort with her 19 kills, while Hillman and Chandler Bryant added 15 kills apiece while comming just seven combined attack errors.

Katie Hank was the fourth Blue Hen in double figure kills with 13, while Mackenzie Olsen posted season-highs of 62 assists and 18 digs. Freshman Taylor Hollingsworth also tied her career-best by making 14 digs on the evening.

Liz Brown paced the Tribe with 17 kills, while Dessi Koleva added 12 on the night.

“I’m proud that we stayed together and showed some resiliency,” said Blue Hen head coach Bonnie Kenny. “We had to stick together and relax and play good team defense and offense, and I am proud we did that as a unit! This was an excellent team win on the road!”
