University of Delaware Volleyball Heads North This Weekend To Face Hofstra, Northeastern in Conference Action
NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team continues Colonial Athletic Association road action this weekend as the Blue Hens will head north to face Hofstra and Northeastern.
The Blue Hens will take on the Pride in Hempstead, N.Y. Friday at 7 p.m., and following a day off, will face Northeastern Sunday at 1 p.m. in Boston. Delaware will be looking to exact revenge on both squads, as UD dropped a 3-1 decision to the Huskies and a 3-0 defeat to the Pride two weeks ago at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Blue Hens enter this weekend’s action with a 10-9 overall record, and are tied for fifth place in the CAA standings with a 2-3 league mark. However Delaware has captured two of its previous three conference road contests so far this year.
Sophomore Ariel Shonk leads the Blue Hen defensive effort as she has recorded 412 digs this season, a 5.49 set average that ranks second in the CAA and 10th in the nation. Shonk, the current CAA Defensive Player of the Week, made a season-high 38 assists during last Friday’s 3-2 victory over William & Mary, and surpassed the 1,000 digs mark during Sunday’s match at James Madison.
Fellow sophomore Mackenzie Olsen is leading the CAA by dishing out 9.75 assists per set while classmate Katie Hillman paces the Blue Hen attack with 3.33 kills per set, ranking her fourth in the league. Also for Delaware, Chandler Bryant ranks eighth in the CAA with a .256 hitting percentage while Jill Meyers is third by averaging 1.08 blocks per set.
Kelsie Wills leads Hofstra with 325 kills, a 4.45 average, while ranking second on the Pride with 170 digs and 23 service aces. Kaitlyn Krause has posted 461 assists for Hofstra, which is 12-8 overall and 3-2 in the CAA.
Northeastern, which enters the weekend riding a five-match winning streak, is 12-7 overall and sits in second place in the CAA with a 4-1 league mark. Hanna Gibeau paces the Huskies with 155 kills this season, while Jamie Bredahl is right behind her at 150 kills. Ina Kamenova has dished out 465 assists for Northeastern, while Natalia Skiba leads the conference with a 5.83 digs average.
Following this weekend’s road trip, Delaware will be back home on October 25-26 when the Blue Hens host James Madison and William & Mary in a pair of 7 p.m. matches at the Bob Carpenter Center.
