NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware freshman Autumn Jenkins posted a career-high 13 kills but it was not enough as the Blue Hens dropped a 3-1 decision to Towson Sunday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Tigers, who won by set scores of 25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 25-22, improved to 10-22 overall and 2-10 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Delaware dropped its sixth consecutive match as the Blue Hens fell to 11-15 overall and 3-9 in league play.

Jenkins had 13 kills and hit .303 to lead the Delaware attack, while redshirt sophomore Chandler Bryant (at left) chipped in with 12 kills and a .276 hitting percentage. Freshman Kali Funk posted a double-double with 32 assists and 11 digs, while sophomore Ariel Shonk contributed a match-best 25 digs.

Haley Pa’akaula and Saitaua Iosia each recorded 15 kills for Towson, while Paige Sekerak led the Tigers with 20 digs.

Towson jumped ahead in the early going, winning the first six points of the match and taking an 11-2 advantage. Delaware would not get closer than six points during the frame as Towson took the first set, 25-18.

The Tigers again took control early in the second game, capturing the opening five points and eventually extending the margin to 9-3. Later in the set the Blue Hens used a four-point run to close within 18-15 but Delaware could not get any closer, while Towson ended up winning the set, 25-19.

The third set remained tight throughout, as neither team led by more than two points before the squads were knotted at 18-18. But Delaware then gained the upper hand by winning the next three points, while a Katie Hank kill put the set away for the Blue Hens, 25-21.

UD used a four-point run to take a 14-12 advantage in the fourth game, but Towson immediately responded by winning eight of the next nine points to go up 20-15. The Blue Hens twice pulled within two, but a kill by Iosia put the match away for the Tigers.

“Autumn came in and did a nice job, she really gave us a lift tonight,” said Blue Hen head coach Bonnie Kenny. “It took us a while to get our offense going and our setting was a little rough early on, but obviously it got better as the match went on. Unfortunately it was the same old story, we just had trouble terminating.”

Match Notes:
• Towson avenged a 3-0 loss to Delaware on Sept. 27
• The Tigers held a 14-8 block advantage
• Jenkins’ previous career-high in kills was six
• Bryant reached double figures in kills for the 12th time this season
• Funk posted her fourth double-double in the last six matches
• Shonk needs 13 digs to move into the top 10 on the UD single season list
