WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The University of Delaware baseball team opens up Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend as the Blue Hens travel to Williamsburg, Va. for a three-game series against William & Mary.

The first two games will be played as a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. and the third and final game of the series will take place Sunday at 1 p.m.

Delaware (10-12) has lost four of its last five including losing three of four games in last weekend’s series against Bryant.

The Blue Hens are led offensively by RF Norm Donkin (.341, 13 runs, eight doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI), Joe Giacchino (.307, 12 runs, six doubles, two triples, one home run and eight RBI) and E.J. Stoltzfus (.300, 12 runs, three doubles and 9 RBI).

Delaware senior RHP Dan Gatto (3-3, 3.60 ERA) will take the mound on Friday for the Blue Hens to face William and Mary’s Jason Inghram (4-0, 2.16). On Saturday, the Hens will send lefty Brandon Hinkle (3-1, 6.03 ERA) to the mound to face John Sheehan (2-2, 2.73 ERA). Sunday’s pitching matchup will be Delaware’s Chad Martin (3-1, 3.09 ERA) against the Tribe’s Bryson Kauhaahaa (0-1, 2.25 ERA).

William & Mary (16-7) has the best record in the CAA and the Tribe have won 13 of their last 15 games.  Junior Michael Katz earned Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors for the second straight week after batting .750 (9-12) with two doubles, three home runs, nine runs scored and 12 RBI.

The Tribe’s offense was on display in three games last weekend (one against UMass-Lowell, two against Brown). William & Mary scored 47 runs in those three games, but were only able to secure two wins.

The first meeting between the Tribe and Blue Hens was in 1908 (5-0 Delaware victory) and although the Blue Hens won eight of the first nine meetings, the Tribe lead the all-time series 23-22.

William and Mary’s standouts on offense are Katz (.427, 36 runs, nine doubles, 12 home runs and 50 RBI), Devin White (.448, five runs, six doubles, one home run and 12 RBI), Charley Gould (.433, 13 runs, eight doubles, two home runs and 20 RBI) and Nick Thompson (.424, 35 runs, six doubles, six home runs and 19 RBI).

Between Katz, White, Gould and Thompson, the Tribe have the four highest batting averages in the CAA.
