NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware will look to get back to their winning ways as the Blue Hens host Delaware St. today at 3 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium.

Delaware won two of three games this past weekend over UNC-Wilmington and moved into sole possession of third place in the Colonial Athletic Association standings.

The Blue Hens, however, could not continue their good play as they fell to Wilmington (Del.) 9-3 on Monday. Delaware’s loss to Wilmington (Del.) was just the third loss this season at Bob Hannah Stadium. The Blue Hens’ record at the newly-renovated facility is now 7-3.

Despite the offensive struggles in Delaware’s loss Monday to Wilmington (Del.), Joe Giacchino and Norm Donkin provided a few bright spots.

Donkin doubled down the left field line in third inning and now has 16 doubles this season, which is a team-high and the second-most in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Giacchino had a double, scored a run, and batted in another in Monday’s defeat. With his first inning walk, Giacchino has now reached base safely in the last 20 games.

Delaware St. comes into today’s matchup having won six games in a row and currently stand in first place in the Northern Division of the MEAC. The Hornets have the most conference and overall wins in the MEAC.

The Hornets lead the MEAC in batting with a team batting average of .349 – the next closest MEAC team has an average of .280. Delaware St. has 10 players batting over .340 on the season and have seven of the top nine hitters in the MEAC.

D.J. Miller and Cameron Onderko both lead the Hornets with a .429 batting average on the season. Miller also leads the team in hits (51), doubles (12), and triples (3).

This will be the 48th meeting between the Blue Hens and Hornets. Their first meeting was in 1993. The Blue Hens lead the all-time series 37-10, but have lost three of the last four matchups against Delaware St.

Senior Connor Hibbs (0-2, 8.10 ERA) will take the mound for the Blue Hens, while RHP Chris Gonzalez (1-1, 3.18 ERA) will start for the Hornets

First pitch of the game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium.
