CENTERVILLE, Mass. -- Former University of Delaware baseball standout Jimmy Yezzo gained another prestigioius post-season award on Tuesday as the slugging first baseman was selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) NCAA Division I Eastern Player of the Year.

Yezzo, currently playing in the minor leagues with the Washington Nationals organization, was joined on the ECAC All-East first team by his teammate, senior outfielder Nick Ferdinand. The two become the first UD players to earn All-East honors since first baseman Steve Ulaky was a first team pick in 2011. Yezzo is the first Blue Hen player to be named ECAC Player of the Year since outfielder Kevin Mench earned the award in 1998.

The righthanded sluggler was earlier named third team All-American by the ABCA, first team All-East Region by the ABCA, and first team All-CAA. He was selected by Philadelphia in the 35th round of the MLB Draft and is currently playing with the Gulf Coast League Philadelphia Phillies in Florida.

Yezzo and Ferdinand led the Blue Hens to a record of 33-22 this past spring, a third place finish in the CAA standings, and a berth in the CAA Tournament for head coach Jim Sherman.

Yezzo led the Colonial Athletic Association with a .410 batting average and 28 doubles during the 2013 season and also ranked second in the league with 13 home runs and with 64 runs batted in.
