ROCKVILLE, Md. -- University of Delaware pitcher Brandon Hinkle continued his successful summer in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League (CRCBL) as his team, the Baltimore Redbirds, clinched the league’s championship title Sunday.

Less than a month after being selected to participate in the CRCBL’s All-Star game, Hinkle entered the contest for the Red Birds in the top of the ninth inning and retired two batters while allowing no hits to close out the 4-1 victory over the Bethesda Big Train.

The league championship is the second straight for the Red Birds. For the past five seasons, the Redbirds and Big Train have met in league championship series final.

Hinkle will return to Delaware’s baseball squad next spring for his senior season. As a junior in 2013, he appeared in four games with one start. Hinkle and the Blue Hens will look to make their third consecutive Colonial Athletic Association post-season tournament appearance in 2014.
