HARRISONBURG, Va. – For the second-straight year and seventh time during head coach Jim Sherman’s tenure, the University of Delaware baseball team has qualified for the Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Championships that will be held May 22-25 on the campus of James Madison University at Veterans Memorial Park.

Led by captains DJ Long and Nick Ferdinand, Delaware (33-20, 15-12 CAA) returns to the CAA Baseball Championships as the No. 3 seed for the second straight season. The Hens’ 33 regular season victories are the most by a Delaware team since 2002 as UD vies for its first CAA title and looks to avenge last year’s championship game loss to the UNCW Seahawks.

Regular season champion UNCW (37-19, 18-8 CAA) earned the top seed in the upcoming championships while William & Mary (35-20, 17-10 CAA) captured the No. 2 seed. Both schools received a first round bye in the six-team double-elimination tournament. Rounding out the tournament field is No. 4 Towson (25-28, 14-13 CAA), No. 5 Northeastern (28-24, 12-15 CAA) and No. 6 James Madison (24-28, 11-15 CAA).

Delaware’s quest for a CAA championship begins on Wednesday, May 22 at 3:30 p.m. when the Hens play James Madison in the second game on the opening day of the tournament. UD and JMU will follow the Towson vs. Northeastern game that is set to start at 12 noon. The losers of the first two games will meet in an elimination contest at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Thursday, defending champion UNCW will play the Towson/Northeastern winner at 12 noon. William & Mary meets the Delaware/JMU winner at 3:30 p.m. An elimination game follows at 7 p.m.

Tournament action continues with three games on Friday with the CAA championship game set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 25.
