NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware men’s basketball team will play 16 Colonial Athletic Association games, opening its league slate at home versus Hofstra, as the conference announced its tentative 2013-14 schedule this week.

All CAA game dates and times are subject to change based on television schedules. The final schedule along with television broadcast information is expected to be announced at CAA Basketball Media Day on October 22.

Following 15 non-conference games, the Blue Hens will close their regular season by playing each of the other eight conference squads home and away. Delaware will play just 16 league games for the first time since the 1994-95 season when the Blue Hens competed in the North Atlantic Conference. UD will again face a challenging schedule, playing 16 contests against teams that participated in 2013 postseason tournaments.

Delaware, which won 13 CAA games a year ago, its most since joining the league, kicks off its conference slate at home against the Pride on Jan. 8. Following a road contest at James Madison on Jan. 11, the Blue Hens are back at the Carpenter Center on Jan. 15 to host William & Mary.

UD begins a tough stretch at Northeastern on Jan. 18, before heading to Drexel on Jan. 20 and hosting Towson on Jan. 25. The Blue Hens are then at William & Mary on Jan. 29, prior to starting a four-game homestand against UNCW on Feb. 1. The stretch continues at Delaware welcomes Northeastern to Newark on Feb. 3, league newcomer College of Charleston on Feb. 5, and James Madison on Feb. 12.

The four-game stretch will be the Blue Hens’ longest homestand since the 2008-09 season, and will mark Delaware’s longest conference home stretch since hosting five consecutive America East opponents in January, 1998.

The Blue Hens will be back on the road at Towson on Feb. 17, and two nights later head to Hofstra on Feb. 19. UD will host its final home game on Feb. 23 versus Drexel, before heading south to face UNCW on Feb. 26 and College of Charleston on Mar. 1 to close out the regular season.

The CAA Tournament will be held on Mar. 7-10 at Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, Md.

The Blue Hens, led by eighth-year head coach Monté Ross, went 19-14 last season and advanced to the CAA Tournament Semifinals for the first time since 2003.
