NEWARK, Del.  --  The University of Delaware men’s and women’s basketball squads will tip-off their 2013-14 seasons with a fun-filled event when the Blue Hens host the inaugural Hens Halloween Hoopla on Tuesday evening, Oct. 29, at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Blue Hen basketball fans and families are invited to come out and take part in a night filled with fun, prizes, and a chance to meet and greet the members of the 2013-14 University of Delaware basketball squads.

The event and parking is free with doors to the pre-event Halloween Fun Zone, complete with inflatables, set to open at 6:30 p.m. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Among the highlights will be inflatables, a Halloween costume contest with prizes, Spirit Team performances, introductions, a meet and greet, and skill contests by the 2013-14 basketball team members, question and answer sessions with UD head coaches Tina Martin and Monté Ross, and appearances by YoUDee and Baby Blue.

The Bob Carpenter Center concessions will be open for fans to purchase food and drinks.

Practice is already underway for both squads as they prepare for promising seasons and the chance to capture the Colonial Athletic Association championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Hen women are looking to capture their third straight league title. Both teams are expected to be picked near the top of the standings when the pre-season coaches poll are announced at the annual CAA Media Day in Baltimore on Oct. 22.
