ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- University of Delaware junior guard Devon Saddler was selected to the 2012-13 U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Men’s Basketball All-District II Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Saddler has started all 33 games for the Blue Hens this season, leading the Colonial Athletic Association and ranking 14th in the nation with 19.9 points per game. His 656 points are currently the 11th most in Division I, the fourth most in a UD single season, and 91 more than any other player in the CAA.
A first team All-CAA selection, Saddler led Delaware in scoring during 24 games on the year and is the school’s career leader by starting 96 consecutive games, every contest of his career.
Saddler currently leads the conference with 37.8 minutes played and is fourth with an 82.0 free throw percentage, seventh with a 33.7 three-point percentage, ninth with 1.7 three-pointers made per game, and 13th with a 42.8 field goal percentage and 2.8 assists per game.
Saddler reached double figures in the first 32 games of the season, surpassing the 20-point mark 16 times and recording a pair of 30-point efforts. He has scored 1,670 career points, third most in Blue Hen history and the most among active CAA players.
District II includes schools from New York, New Jersey, Delaware, District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Saddler was joined on the team by Michael Carter-Williams and CJ Fair of Syracuse, Ramon Galloway of La Salle, Ian Hummer of Princeton, Lamont Jones of Iona, Mike Muscala of Bucknell, Otto Porter of Georgetown, Tray Woodall of Pittsburgh, and Khalif Wyatt of Temple. Porter was selected as the District II Player of the Year, while Georgetown’s John Thompson III was the district’s Coach of the Year.
