NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware field hockey team learned their fate late Sunday evening and the No. 17 Blue Hens will host Liberty University at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rullo Stadium in the NCAA Tournament Play-In game.

The Hens, who won the Colonial Athletic Association Championship earlier Sunday with a 5-1 victory over Northeastern, earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2009 season.  With Sunday’s win, Delaware (16-4) tied the single-season win record with 16 victories, a mark that had not be reached since the 1988 season.

“We’re excited to play Wednesday at Rullo Stadium as we’ve had a great season on our home turf,” remarked Delaware’s third-year head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof.  “At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what seed you are or who you play, we are in the NCAA Tournament and that is what you are looking for every year.  We will prepare the same as we have done all season long.  This will be a quick turnaround, but we’ve done that all season with Friday and Sunday games.  We look forward to playing in front of our home crowd once again.”

Liberty (17-4) earned its berth into the NCAA Tournament with a 2-1 upset over No. 10 Stanford to pick up the 2013 NorPac Championship title.  The Lady Flames claimed their first title in just its second season of competition in the NorPac and third season overall as a program.  LU is led by Natalie Barr’s 49 points off of 19 goals and 11 assists while goalie Ann Jefferis has averaged 0.95 goals allowed per game.

The winner of Wednesday's game will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to face third-seeded North Carolina Saturday.
