NEWARK, Del. – Senior Kelsey Buchanan walked away with top honors Thursday evening as the University of Delaware women’s basketball team celebrated its annual awards banquet at the Deerfield Golf and Tennis Club.

Buchanan was named the team MVP and also earned the Blue Hen Basketball Club Outstanding Achievement Award following a dazzling senior campaign.  The South Riding, Va. native finished the season by leading the Hens with 17.1 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 33.0 minutes per game.  Last month, Buchanan earned All-CAA First Team and All-Tournament Team accolades.

Despite their youth, the Blue Hens exceeded expectations this past season and received their fifth straight berth into postseason play by finishing second in the Colonial Athletic Association.  Additionally, Delaware collected its 12th 20-win season in the past 15 year while wrapping the 2013-14 campaign with a mark of 20-11.

Head coach Tina Martin, who just completed her 18th season at the helm of the Hens, was also honored for collecting her 350th career victory.  Martin reached the milestone on Jan. 5 as Delaware defeated Hofstra in overtime.  Associate head coach Jeanine Radice presented Martin with a customized basketball to recognize the achievement.
