RICHMOND, Va. (May 30, 2013) – The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md. has been selected to host the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Championship for 2014 and 2015. The league’s athletic directors voted to return to the neutral site for another two years.

“The Show Place Arena has been a successful and popular venue for our championship.  We are thrilled to extend our agreement another two years,” said CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager.

The Show Place Arena has served as the host of the CAA women’s championship and entertained over 23,000 fans during the past three years.  The league will welcome College of Charleston to its membership in 2013-14 and Elon University for the 2014-15 season.

"The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is delighted to continue our relationship with the CAA.  Hosting the women's basketball tournament at the Show Place Arena here in Prince George's County brings an amazing sporting event to the region, with visibility and economic benefits for everyone. We look forward to our continuing partnership," stated Ronnie Gathers, Director of M-NCPPC's Department of Parks and Recreation.

The 2014 women’s championship will be held March 13-16.  All games in the four-day, eight-game tournament will be played at the 5,000-seat arena, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Times and a bracket will be released at a later date.

The CAA saw four teams advance to the postseason, including two-time conference champion Delaware, in 2013. The Blue Hens advanced to the NCAA Regional Semifinal game after defeating West Virginia and North Carolina.  Drexel, back-to-back CAA runner-ups, won the 2013 Women’s National Invitation Tournament Championship with victories over Iona, Harvard, Bowling Green, Auburn, Florida and Utah.
