PHILADELPHIA – University of Delaware women’s basketball standout Elena Delle Donne will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Philadelphia Phillies' Modell's Sporting Goods Home Opener on April 9. The Phillies will face the Miami Marlins in a 1:09 p.m. start at Citizens Bank Park.

At 12:56 p.m., The Leap Frogs, the U.S. Navy parachute team, will parachute onto the field, delivering the game ball.

The ceremonial first pitch is set for 1:03 p.m. Delle Donne will be accompanied by Ivy Encarnacion of Modell’s Sporting Goods.

Delle Donne helped nationally-ranked Delaware (31-2) to a record-breaking season that included its first-ever national ranking, a perfect 18-0 Colonial Athletic Association regular season, and the Blue Hens’ first CAA Tournament crown. She polished off the season with a 39-point performance that boosted Delaware to its first-ever NCAA Tournament victory with a 73-42 win over host UALR in the first round. The Hens were knocked out in the second round by Kansas.

The 2011-12 Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year, Delle Donne led all NCAA Division I players in scoring, averaging 28.1 points. She finished out the 2011-12 season with 927 points, becoming only the 15th player in NCAA Division I history to reach the 900 points per season milestone. Her 927 points this season ranks seventh in the all-time NCAA Division I record book.
