Delaware's Kelsey Buchanan Tabbed as CAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week
RICHMOND, Va. – After recording another career week for the University of Delaware, Kelsey Buchanan (South Riding, Va.) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Buchanan tallied a career-best 27 points on 9-for-19 shooting from the field in addition to tying a career-high 15 rebounds for the third double double of her career in the Blue Hens’ 71-66 overtime victory against Hofstra in Sunday’s CAA opener. Buchanan was clutch for the Hens in the overtime period as she scored eight of the team’s nine points en route to victory.
Earlier in the week, Buchanan posted 16 points and seven rebounds in a heartbreaking 58-61 loss to St. John’s.
The senior center added a career-best four blocks against the Tribe. Buchanan tallied a career-high five assists against both St. John’s and Hofstra.
For the week, Buchanan averaged a double double of 21.5 points and 15.0 rebounds in addition to five assists, 2.5 blocked shots and 1.0 steals in 39.5 minutes of action for Delaware (9-3, 1-0 CAA).
Buchanan has scored double figures in all 12 of UD’s games this season and leads the team with 17.4 points (second CAA), 8.3 rebounds (third CAA) and 1.0 blocks (fifth CAA) per game. She is also third in the league with a shooting percentage of 51.0 and free throw percentage of 83.8.
Buchanan was previously honored by the CAA as its CAA Co-Player of the Week for Nov. 18 and the Player of the Week for Dec. 2.
William & Mary’s Latrice Hunter nabbed CAA Rookie of the Week honors.
Delaware makes its first CAA road trip of the season as the Blue Hens play at William & Mary on Thursday at 7 p.m. and at James Madison on Sunday at 2 p.m.
