SAN DIEGO – The NCAA has included former University of Delaware women’s basketball standout Elena Delle Donne as one of its 10 extraordinary student-athletes who will be honored this evening as the Today’s Top 10 Award winners.

The NCAA Today’s Top 10 Award recognizes student-athletes for their successes on the fields and courts, in the classroom and in the community.  The award recipients completed their athletics eligibility during the 2012-13 academic year and will be recognized at the Honors Celebration as part of the NCAA Convention in San Diego, Calif.

Delle Donne is a three-time Colonial Athletic Associaton Player of the Year and All-American.  Delle Donne led the Blue Hens to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in school history this past season before being selected as the second overall pick by the Chicago Sky in the WNBA Draft. 

The Wilmington, Del. native established 45 single-game, season and career school records.  She is also the CAA’s all-time leader in points, field goals, free throws made and blocked shots. 

Delle Donne was also a two-time Capital One Women’s Basketball Academic All-American of the Year and CAA Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.

The NCAA Honors Committee selects the honorees and is comprised of athletics administrators at member schools and conferences, as well as nationally distinguished former student-athletes.

Other honorees include Brigetta Barrett (Arizona; Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field), Amber Brooks (North Carolina; Soccer), Raven Chavanne (Tennessee; Softball), Ellie Duffy (Concordia University, St. Paul; Volleyball), Barrett Jones (Alabama; Football), Jocelyne Lamoureux (North Dakota; Ice Hockey), Tim Nelson (Wisconsin-Stout; Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field), Kayla Shull (Clarion University of Pennsylvania; Swimming and Diving), Mary Weatherholt (Nebraska; Tennis).
