NEWARK, Del. – Senior Kelsey Buchanan (below left; South Riding, Va.) and sophomore Courtni Green (Winchester, Va.) combined for 29 points as the University of Delaware women’s basketball team picked up its fifth straight win Sunday afternoon with a 52-43 victory over Towson University at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Just two days after scoring a season-high 85 points over the College of Charleston, Delaware’s 52 points were the fewest in a win this season.  UD and Towson combined for just 10 more points than the Hens scored against CofC.

Buchanan, coming off a career-high 33 points against the Cougars, led the Blue Hens (16-6, 8-3 Colonial Athletic Association) once again with 15 points and nine rebounds while Green added 14 points, including three baskets from behind the arc.

Redshirt sophomore Joy Caracciolo (below right; Manassas, Va.) chipped in with eight points and six rebounds while freshman Hannah Jardine (St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada) dished out a career-best and game-high five assists for UD.

Towson (11-14, 5-7 CAA) collected an early lead, but coming out of the first media timeout of the game, Delaware went on a 17-3 run to take the 21-11 advantage with less than 10 minutes left in the first half.

The Blue Hens would never relinquish the lead, but the Tigers would threaten multiple times.  Towson came within five at 36-31, but would never get closer as Delaware would go up by as much as 13 en route to the victory.

Towson suffered its third straight loss despite getting 18 points and 10 rebounds from LaTorri Hines-Allen and 11 points and 12 rebounds from CAA leading scorer Tanisha McTiller.

POST-GAME QUOTES
Head Coach Tina Martin
“I thought we lost some focus today and we didn’t play well in the second half at all.  This group has really taken great strides in the last two to three weeks, but today we showed a bit of our youth again and had a little letdown.  I wasn’t happy that they beat us on the boards because we need to win that battle every game.  The energy level just wasn’t as high as I would have liked today.”

Senior Kelsey Buchanan
“Our energy was not as high as it should have been today.  We’ve improved a lot in various areas over the past few weeks, including toughness and rebounding, but we can always get better.  It’s something we’re continuously working on.”
