TOWSON, Md. – Student-athletes from the University of Delaware and Towson University will participate in the eighth annual Pigskin Pass this Saturday, Nov. 2. The Pigskin Pass is a 58-mile relay run starting at the 50-yard line of Delaware Stadium and ending on the 50-yard line of Johnny Unitas® Stadium in Towson.

The athletes will be carrying a commemorative game ball for the football game and will be raising money for the Special Olympics programs in Maryland and Delaware.

Early Saturday morning, the Blue Hen student-athletes will depart campus and run the ball half the distance to Towson University, approximately 29 miles.  They will be greeted at Festival Park in Aberdeen by Mayor Michael D. Bennett along with student-athletes and administrators from Towson, Delaware and Special Olympics Representatives from both state organizations.

There will be a brief ceremony where the Blue Hens' mascot, "YouDee" will hand off the ceremonial game ball to Tigers’ mascot, "Doc". The Towson runners will then run the final 29 miles to the Towson campus and arriving prior to the 7:00 p.m. kick-off.

At a designated break in the game, a check will be presented to Special Olympics representatives for the money raised between the two schools to support Special Olympics programs in Delaware and Maryland. Over the past six years, over $168,000 has been raised by athletes supporting athletes in this ongoing collaborative effort.

The winner of the football game will be presented with the Pigskin Pass Trophy at a home basketball game of the winning team. Delaware has won five of the seven previous championship titles, including five straight between 2008-12.

University of Delaware student-athletes coordinating the event are football junior Stephen Clark, volleyball sophomore Jillian Meyers, and track & field senior Courtney Sniscak.
