University of Delaware Attackman Logan Aunon Named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week
Aunon, a 6-5 freshman from Clifton, Va. (Paul VI High School), scored two goals in each of the wins as the Blue Hens improved to 5-2 and extended their winning streak to four games, the longest streak by Delaware since the 2010 NCAA Tournament season.
He netted two goals and dished out an assist in the 9-6 home victory over Lafayette on Tuesday - the Hens’ 34th straight win over the Leopards - and contributed two more goals in the 10-9 win at Binghamton on Saturday as the Hens won on a goal by Brian Kormondy with one second left.
In addition to his scoring total, Aunon put 10 shots on goal and also added three groundballs and a caused turnovers during the week.
Aunon sat out of the first two games of the season and saw just limited action in the third contest, but he was inserted into the starting lineup Feb. 22 vs. Mt. St. Mary’s and has been a key component of the UD attack unit ever since. In his four starts, he has tallied 10 goals, scored at least twice in each game, and recorded two hat tricks. His 10 goals is tied for the team lead with Kormondy.
Delaware has now had a player honored by the CAA two straight weeks as sophomore goalkeeper Conor Peaks was named CAA Player of the Week last week for his outstanding effort in an 11-9 win over Villanova.
In addition to Aunon, the CAA also selected Hofstra’s Sam Llinares and Drexel’s Ben McIntosh as players of the week.
Delaware will continue action this Saturday when the Blue Hens open CAA play at Hofstra at 3 p.m. at Shuart Stadium.
