RICHMOND, Va.  -- The University of Delaware women’s soccer squad placed a pair of standouts on the Colonial Athletic Association preseason all-conference team, the league announced Wednesday.

Senior defender Allegra Gray (West Chester, Pa./Unionville HS) and junior midfielder Emily Market (Holland, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie HS) were among 21 student-athletes honored in a vote of the 10 league head coaches. Delaware was one of five schools that had two or more players honored on the preseason first team.

Gray, a two-time All-CAA selection as a defensive midfielder, will be a fourth-year member of the squad this fall and is the team’s most experienced player, having logged 49 career games with 45 starts. She served as team captain in 2013 when she earned first team All-CAA honors and was selected to the NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Mid-Atlantic Region third team. A CoSIDA Academic All-American candidate as a statistics major, she was named the CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s soccer in 2013.

Market, another two-time All-CAA selection, has played in 33 career games over three seasons for the Hens, started 28 contests, and contributed four goals. She earned third team All-CAA honors in 2013 when she ranked second on the team with three goals. A CAA All-Rookie team selection in 2012, Market is also an Academic All-American candidate as a nursing major at Delaware.

The Blue Hens, led by head coach Scott Grzenda, welcome back 13 players with starting experience this fall as the team celebrates its 25th varsity season. After hosting George Mason (Aug. 14) and George Washington (Aug. 16) in two scrimmages, the Hens will open the regular season at home on Aug. 22 vs. Monmouth at newly-named Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.

The remainder of the preseason first team consisted of forwards Emory Camper (William & Mary), Leah Galton (Hofstra), Katrina Guillou (UNCW), Ashley Herndon (James Madison), and Sam Scolarici (Hofstra), midfielders Stephanie Bronson (UNCW), Jeannine Molleda (Hofstra), and Jill Mulholland (Hofstra), defenders Bianca Calderone (Northeastern), Melissa Chapman (Drexel), Emily Fredrikson (William & Mary), and Shannon Rano (James Madison), and goalkeeper Caroline Casey (William & Mary).
