NEWARK, Del. – On senior day, the University of Delaware women’s soccer team earned a big 2-0 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) win over Northeastern, who entered today’s game undefeated in league play.

Less than six minutes into the start of the first half, sophomore Emily Market scored her first goal of the season to give Delaware an early 1-0 advantage. Market found the back of the net after a mishandled pass by the Huskie’s keeper, which allowed an easy tip in for Market.

At the half, Delaware led Northeastern in shots 5-3 but the Huskies held a 3-2 advantage over the Hens in corners.

At the 55:04 mark of the match, senior Andrea Arnold put away a shot from the right of the goal to add to the Delaware lead. Senior Chelsea Duffy put the initial shot on net that was deflected by a Huskie defender and fell perfectly to the feet of Arnold. Arnold controlled the ball then found the back of the net to put Delaware up, 2-0 with 35 minutes to play.

Northeastern battled hard for the remaining minutes of the match, but could not escae the two goal deficit.

Senior keeper Jessica Levy registered two saves in the win as she shutout the Huskies earning her fourth shutout of the season.

"I am so proud of our team today that they were able to come back after such a hard fought match against Hofstra and play as well as they did today," said Blue Hens head coach Scott Grzenda. "Northeastern is a great team and the fact that we were able to put two away gave us a bit of a break in the second half. Defensively the four back line stepped up tremendously today for us. Emily scored her first goal of the season, which was pure hustle and a great finish. Then it was great to see a senior, Andie, get her third goal of the year on senior day. It was awesome to have all six seniors contribute in our win and now we will start to prepare for Drexel."
