Sanders, Nunes, Montoya Set Records as Delaware Women Post Five Top 10 Finishes at Day 3 of CAA Championships

COLLEGE PARK, Md.  -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams recorded 12 top 10 finishes, including a record-setting third place finish in the men’s 400 individual medley by Alex Tooley and record-setting fifth place finish by Alyssa Sanders in the women’s 100 backstroke during third day action of the Colonial Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships Friday at the University of Maryland’s Eppley Recreation Center.

The Delaware men remained in fourth place in the team standings with 288 points while the UD women dropped one spot to fifth with 240 points. William & Mary leads the men’s team standings followed by 13-time defending champion UNCW, Towson, Delaware, Drexel, and College of Charleston. Defending champion Towson leads the women’s team standings followed by James Madison, William & Mary, UNCW, Delaware, Northeastern, College of Charleston, and Drexel.

The fourth and final day of the meet will get underway at 10 a.m. on Saturday with preliminaries with the championships set for 6 p.m.

Delaware swimmers set four school records on Friday, bringing their count to 11 for the event, including eight by the women.

Sanders was the top UD women’s finisher as she placed fifth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.01 in the finals. Her time of 54.69 in the preliminary round broke the UD record of 55.04 by Courtney Raw in 2011-12 and was also an NCAA B provisional qualifying time.

Also for the women, Annie Nunes finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a school record time of 1:02.77, breaking the mark of 1:03.45 by Marianne Flynn in 2008-09; Kristina Congdon was sixth in one-meter diving; the 400 medley relay team of Sanders, Nunes, Kaitlin Wolla, and Morgan Whyte was seventh (3:47.42); and Dominique Montoya was ninth in the 200 freestyle with her time of 1:49.41 breaking the UD standard of 1:50.16 by Cortney Barry in 2008-09.

On the men’s side, Alex Tooley recorded the top individual finish of the meet for the Blue Hen as he placed third in the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:55.10. His mark broke the school record of 3:56.03 set by Josh Hyman during the 2008-09 season.

Also for the UD men,  Cory Camp posted his second top five finish of the meet as he placed fourth in the 400 individual medley (3:55.34), the 400 medley relay team of Tim Ware, Peter DeLuce, Cole Clark, and Everett Albert was fifth (3:20.88), Clark was sixth in the 100 butterfly (48.89), Ware was sixth in the 100 backstroke (48.65), Garrett Sharesky was eighth in the 400 individual medley (4:03.39), Tim West was 10th in the 400 individual medley (4:01.04), and Albert was 10th in the 200 freestyle (1:40.25).
