Rob Ellery, a former standout member of the University of Delaware cheerleading squad, returned to his alma mater to serve as spirit coordinator and head cheerleading coach in July, 2014.

A native of Middlesex, N.J., Ellery began his collegiate career at Delaware before earning his degree in journalism from the University of Kentucky in 2012.

“I am thrilled to be the new spirit coordinator here at the University of Delaware,” said Ellery. “It is an honor to be a part of a program with such great tradition and history of success. The spirit program is an integral part of the University and I am excited to continue to lead the Blue Hens as national championship contenders each year.”

The spirit coordinator has oversight of the University of Delaware spirit programs and manages and coaches the UD cheerleading program, supervises the head coach of the UD dance team, and has oversight and responsibility for management of the YoUDee mascot program. The coordinator also assists with external relations projects, community outreach, and sports marketing initiatives.

The University of Delaware has ranked among the nation’s most successful spirit programs over the last decade, including capturing the 2014 Division I co-ed national cheerleading title after placing second the previous seven seasons. Also in 2014, YoUDee placed second in the open mascot division and the UD Dance Team finished fifth in the Hip Hop Division and sixth in the Jazz Division.

The success continued in 2015 as Ellery led the co-ed cheerleading team to its second consecutive national title. Delaware also received outstanding performances from its other spirit teams as mascot YoUDee finished second in the Mascots Open Division; the Dance team placed second in both the Division I Jazz Division and the Division I Hip-Hop Division; the team of Aston Dommel and Jackie Fabricatore finished ninth in the Partner Stunt-Coed Division; and the team of Nicole Chinn, Angela Trozzi, Jenna Krasley, and Izzy Debnam placed ninth in the Partner Stunt Girls 4 Division.

Ellery studied sport management for two years at Delaware before heading to the University of Kentucky where he was an honor student, was a recipient of the McCracken Scholarship for outstanding student-athletes, and earned his degree in journalism in 2012.

While at Delaware, he was a two-year member of the cheerleading team and helped the Blue Hens earn second place finishes in both 2008 and 2009 at the Universal Cheerleaders Association. During his time at Kentucky, he led the Wildcats to UCA national championship finishes in both 2010 and 2012 and was a member of Team USA Cheer squads that captured world championships in both 2009 and 2012.

While a student, Ellery worked for the UCA as an instructional manager for varsity brands for five years, travelling across the country to teach at camps for high school and collegiate student-athletes. He also served as an intern for Cheer Leader Magazine from 2009 until 2012.

He served as an instructor and team manager for the Wold Cup All-Stars in 2012-14 and was responsible for coaching, planning and executing fundraising, and communicating practice and competition logistics with parents.

In addition to his roles as an instructor and manager, Ellery formed his own Rob Ellery Music LLC company in 2009 where he creates custom music tracks for cheerleading teams across the United States, Canada, and Australia. His company tripled revenues from 2012 to 2013.

Most recently, Ellery served as an advertisement sales director for University Sports Publications in New York.
