University of Delaware Sophomore Kelly Lupton Selected CAA Softball Pitcher of the Week
RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware sophomore righthander Kelly Lupton has been selected the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the conference on Monday.
Lupton went 2-0 with a pair of shutouts, a save and an 0.36 earned run average during four appearances on the week, allowing just one run in 19.2 innings of work.
Lupton, a native of Galloway, N.J. (Absegami HS) hurled a five-hit shutout during Wednesday’s 5-0 nightcap victory over UMES, her first shutout as a Blue Hen. She then retired all four batters she faced to earn her second save of the year in the 3-0 triumph at La Salle on Thursday.
Lupton fired another shutout in Saturday’s opening 2-0 win over Drexel, scattering three hits to win her fifth game of the season. She capped her week by giving up one run on four hits in 4.1 frames during Sunday’s loss to the Dragons.
Lupton is 5-4 on the campaign, and leads Delaware with a 2.28 earned run average this season. She has struck out 49 batters while walking just 16 in 76.2 innings of work.
Lupton shared CAA Pitcher of the Week accolades with Jailyn Ford of James Madison. She is the third Blue Hen to earn a conference award this year, as Carolyn Szymanski and Giovanna Kolofer were each named CAA Rookie of the Week in March.
Lupton and the Blue Hens (16-17, 4-4 CAA) head to Lafayette on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader with the Leopards, before a three-game conference series at Towson this weekend.
