HEN SCRATCHINGS

  • BACK-TO-BACK TIES: Delaware is coming off a pair of ties last week. The Hens opened the week with a 1-1 tie against regional rival UMBC Tuesday. The hens held a 1-0 lead into the second half of that match, but a second-half strike sent the game into overtime, where it ended tied at one. On Saturday, the Blue Hens drew College of Charleston, picking up a critical road point.
  • RANKED PLAY: The Blue Hens are facing off with a ranked opponent for the second time this season. Back on Sept. 17, the Blue Hens dropped a 1-0 contest to then ranked (#22) UNCW on a PK in overtime.
  • ACC CLASH: The Blue Hens are playing an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent for the third consecutive season. Often regarded as the top conference in college soccer, the Blue Hens last defeated an ACC program in the 2011 season, defeating Virginia (1-0).
  • GEARING UP FOR THE FINALE: Following Tuesday’s clash with the Blue Devils, the Hens will return home for the biggest game of the season against Elon. The Blue Hens need to defeat Elon in order to advance to the postseason for the fifth consecutive season and for the seventh time in eight years.
  • MORE SUCCESS FOR MORTON: Goalkeeper Todd Morton made a season-high seven saves in last Tuesday’s match against UMBC. Morton remains just one win away from tying Borja Barbero all-time victory record.
