Blue Hens Tie For Fourth Place, Purcell Sixth at Finegan Invitational
LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. -- The University of Delaware men’s golf team tied for fourth place while Kieran Purcell and Mark Benevento posted top 10 individual finishes on Monday at the Finegan Invitational.
The Blue Hens fired team rounds of 304 and 301 during the tournament’s two rounds, tying for fourth place out of 14 squads with a two-round total of 605. Longwood captured the team title with a 586 score, while Drexel finished just one shot back. Villanova was third with a 601 total, while Delaware and Lehigh tied for fourth.
Purcell carded a two over par 75-71-146 on the par 72, 6,641-yard course at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club to finish sixth in the individual standings, while Benevento tied for 10th place with a four over par score of 73-75-148.
Bobby Diforio tied for 33rd place with a 12 over par 80-76-156, while Marc Oliveri fired a 12 over par 77-79-156 to also finish tied for 33rd place. Blaine Lafferty, playing as an individual, tied for 48th place with a 15 over par 82-77-159, while Jack Gianniny shot a 19 over par 79-84-163 to tie for 58th place.
Jordan Boulton of Longwood was the tournament medalist as he carded a four under par 140 to post a four-shot victory.
Delaware returns to action next Monday and Tuesday when the Blue Hens compete in the Rhode Island Invitational at Quidnessett Country Club in Naragansett, R.I.
