Blue Hen Men’s Golfers Finish Sixth at Rhode Island Invitational

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- The University of Delaware men’s golf team carded a 304 score during Tuesday’s final round to finish in sixth place out of 14 squads at the Rhode Island Invitational.
The Blue Hens, who posted 303 and 301 rounds on Monday, finished the tournament with a three-round score of 908 to notch their eighth top-six finish of the year.
The host Rams captured the team title with an 876 score, while Bryant finished second at 884 and Fordham was third at 887.
Delaware junior Kieran Purcell fired a three over par 75 during his final round on the par 72, 6,670-yard Quidnessett Country Club course, tying for 12th place in the individual standings with a six over par 72-75-75-222. Marc Oliveri, who recorded the lowest round of the day by a Blue Hen with a two over par 74, tied for 20th place at 75-76-74-225, nine over par.
Jack Gianniny tied for 30th place at the invitational with a 14 over par 80-74-76-230, while Bobby Diforio carded a 17 over par 77-76-80-233 to finish in a tie for 38th place. Blaine Lafferty tied for 48th place after he fired an 18 over par 79-76-79-234 at the tournament.
Delaware returns to action this weekend when the Blue Hens compete in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship at Salisbury Country Club in Midlothian, Va.
