Delaware Falters, 4-2, at Mount Saint Mary’s
EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Blue Hens closed out regular season play Friday with a disappointing 4-2 loss at Mount Saint Mary’s.
Senior Tyler Flematti (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) led the way for Delaware by picking up wins in both doubles and singles action. Flematti opened the day by pairing with freshman Laurenz Lankes (Cologne, Germany) for the 6-3 top-flight doubles victory.
The Mount (6-13) captured wins in the second and third flights to clinch the team point.
Flematti then followed with a 7-6 (7), 6-2 triumph over Brandon Wortkotter in No. 4 singles.
Freshman Dominick Perez (Bethesda, Md./Gonzaga College) collected his 15th singles win of the season by defeating Peter Landis, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the fifth spot.
The Blue Hens (9-17) now await their destiny for next week’s CAA Tournament. Seeding, opponents and schedules will be announced early in the week.
Head Coach Pablo Montana
“We definitely had our chances today and this loss will sting for awhile. Mount Saint Mary’s came up with some big shots in doubles and eventually broke us to win the team point. In singles, we fought until the very end and that is one thing that I can always count on with this team. They will always give 100% effort and I’m very proud of the way we competed today. Congratulations to Tyler for having a great day and winning both his doubles and singles matches while keeping us tight in this match.”
