BROOKLINE, Mass. -- The University of Delaware baseball squad will return to Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend when it heads to Northeastern for a critical three-game series.

The series opener is scheduled for Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Parsons Field at Friedman Diamond with the final two games of the series starting Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Blue Hens (15-12, 3-3 CAA) come into the weekend in fourth place in the CAA, just one-game behind the Huskies (11-15, 4-2 CAA) for third place.

Week in Review:
So far this week the Hens have dropped a pair of midweek road games to LaSalle and UMBC.

In Wednesday’s 5-4 loss to the Retrievers, Delaware mustered just eight hits and one earned run. Senior outfielder Jordan Glover went 3-4 at the plate, including an eighth-inning lead-off triple.

After the triple, second baseman Jeremy Ake sent a groundball toward the third base bag. Glover aggressively broke for the plate, but slipped halfway down the base lines. The speedster tried to recover but was tagged out.

In the loss the Blue Hens received four shutout innings from reliever Cole Benjamin.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Hens fell behind 7-0 after six innings of play before falling to La Salle 7-2 in the semifinals of the Liberty Bell Classic. The Hens were able to add runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, but could not find the clutch hit.

Delaware reliever Kyle Hinton pitched four innings, allowing just two earned runs, and Glover hit his seventh home run of the season.

The two mid-week setbacks followed a weekend in which the Hens took two of three from William & Mary at Bob Hannah Stadium. The teams split a doubleheader on Saturday with the Tribe winning 8-2 in the opener and Delaware taking the nightcap 8-5. Delaware won the rubber game on Sunday with a 5-4 comeback win in 11 innings.

Last weekend the Hens split a doubleheader vs. William & Mary on Saturday, falling 8-2 in the opener before pulling out an 8-5 victory in the nightcap.

Scouting the Foes:
Northeastern comes into the weekend in third place in the CAA, due in large part to its three-game sweep at Towson last week.

The Huskies, winless at home this season at 0-3, are batting .272 on the season and have a league-worst 6.81 earned run average. NU has five batters hitting over .300 this season.

Junior infielder Max Burt is leading the Huskies with a .347 average and has hit a team-high 11 doubles with 22 runs scored. On the mound, reliever Brian Rodriguez has been dominant, allowing just one earned run in 15.2 innings pitched (0.57 ERA).

All-Time Series:
Delaware leads the all-time matchup 44-31. When the two teams met last season, Northeastern swept the Blue Hens at Bob Hannah Stadium.
