DOVER, Del. -- The University of Delaware baseball squad will continue its 11-game road trip Tuesday afternoon at Delaware State.

The Hens (23-15) have won seven out of eight, and six straight games in the state of Delaware. The road-trip will continue this weekend at UNCW, before the Hens conclude the trip with a mid-week game against Saint Joseph’s and a weekend set at North Carolina State.  

Week in Review:

Delaware is coming off a 3-1 week. The Hens won a mid-week affair against Saint Joseph’s and won a pair of games at Elon this past weekend.

Tuesday the Hens capped off the perfect home stand defeating Saint Joseph’s, 11-6. Delaware fell behind 5-2, but used a seven-run seventh inning to recover for the victory. First baseman Nick Patten and Jordan Glover each hit two-run home runs, before Diaz Nardo delivered a crucial grand slam. Reliever Kyle Hinton produced three-innings of scoreless relief, striking out five. The performance earned Hinton his first win of the season.

This weekend the Hens defeated Elon Friday night, before splitting a doubleheader against the Phoenix on Saturday. In the series opener, Doug Trimble went 4-5 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI. On the mound, the Hens received 5.1 shutout innings from Nick Spadafino.

In game one, Phoenix starter Kyle Brnovich threw five shutout innings in Elon’s 15-2 victory. In the nightcap, Delaware defeated the NC-based school 3-2. In the win, Ron Marinaccio pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless ball. The Hens received solo home runs from Patten and Brian Mayer. Senior Burk FitzPatrick earned his third save of the season when he recorded the final out of the game.

Scouting the Hornets:

Delaware State enters the game with a record of 15-19, 10-8 in the MEAC. The Hornets are 7-5 this season at Solider Field.  Delaware State has won six games in a row, most recently sweeping Maryland Eastern Shore.

So far this season, Evan Regez leads DSU in batting average (.367) and hits (44). Jared Gillis has hit .331 so far this season, hitting a team leading three home runs.

All-Time Series:

Delaware leads the all-time series 44-10, including the team’s most recent matchup this season. Delaware has won the last seven in a row against their in-state rival. 

Pitching Matchup:

RHP Kyle Hinton will get the start for the Blue Hens. Delaware State has yet to announce its starting pitcher.
