NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware head coach Jim Sherman announced the addition of four student-athletes to the baseball roster for the 2018-19 campaign.

The Blue Hens signed Joseph CarpenterJack DubecqDanny Nunan and Joey Silan to National Letters of Intent that will bring the future Hens to campus next summer.

Joseph Carpenter (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) is a power-hitting infielder. Throughout his high school career, Carpenter has batted .429. A two-time All-County selection, Carpenter was named All-Conference in 2015 and has led his team in extra-base hits his first three years.

The second Delaware signee is Saint Mark’s product Jack Dubecq (Newark, Del./St. Marks). A right-handed pitcher and outfielder, Dubecq posted a 2.76 ERA in 11 games for the Spartans and head coach Matt Smith. In addition to playing baseball, Dubecq also is a member of the St. Mark's basketball team.

Left-hander Danny Nunan (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Ocean City) is the third signee in Delaware’s 2018 Class. The lanky (6’5”) lefty has pitched and played first base for coaches Craig Mensinger and Andrew Bristol. A season ago, Nunan posted a 4-2 record pitching to a 1.24 ERA. The New Jersey native struck out 72 batters in 45 innings.

The final signee is pitcher/outfielder Joey Silan (Newark, Del./Caravel Academy). A season ago, Silan went 5-0 with a 1.14 ERA, striking out 69 batters. The righty also served as a captain for head coach Paul Niggebrugge.  Silan has been an All-State selection each of the past three seasons.

“We’re excited to announce the first four members of our 2018 recruiting class. With the four new additions, we’ve added some more pitching depth and some more power. We’re excited, and this is part of the greatness that we are trying to achieve at the University of Delaware as this is another great recruiting class.”
