THE WEEK THAT WAS: Delaware is coming off a 2-1 weekend at Charleston Southern. After dropping the season-opener 6-3, the Blue Hens rallied to take the next two games 6-2 and 1-0. In Saturday’s victory (6-2), Delaware received five strong innings from RHP James Meeker. Sunday, senior Diaz Nardo hit his first home run of the year in Delaware’s 1-0 victory. Three Blue Hen pitchers (Sullivan IV, Conaway and Vila) combined to throw a four-hit shutout.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Delaware freshman Billy Sullivan IV was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week the conference announced Tuesday. Sullivan IV is the Hens first CAA Rookie of the Week selection since Kyle Baker back in March of 2015.

BAKING IN THE SUN: Junior Kyle Baker had a great opening weekend, as the Wilmington Charter product hit 7-12 (.583) in the opening weekend of the year. Baker scored three runs and drove in three. Saturday, Baker went four-for-five with his first home run of the season.

RUNNING WITH THE BULL(PEN): The Blue Hens bullpen was flat-out dominate last weekend as four relievers combined to allow just one-run over 14.1 innings of work (0.63 ERA)

NO ‘IV’ NEEDED: Freshman Billy Sullivan IV dazzled in his Blue Hens debut last Sunday. The St. Mark’s product threw five shutout innings, striking out nine batters. Showing a plus fastball (92-95 MPH) Sullivan scattered just three hits.

NEW LOOK HENS: Delaware was extremely aggressive on the base-paths last weekend. In total, the Blue Hens stole 10 bases in 12 attempts (.833). Baker led the Hens with four successful stolen bases (five attempts). Mercer County CC transfer Vinny Vaccone stole a pair of bases for the Hens. In total six different Blue Hens stole a base.

BEHIND ENEMY LINES: Florida Atlantic enters this weekend with a 3-1 record. The Owls opened the season with a series sweep against George Washington. FAU won the series opener 3-0, the middle game 6-1 before clinching the sweep with a walk-off 3-2 win. FAU suffered its lone defeat at #1 Florida Tuesday. In the 6-1 loss, catcher Pedro Pages went two-for-four, while outfielder Diamond Johnson drove in the Owls lone run.
