BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The University of Delaware dropped a 2-1 pitcher’s duel to Florida Atlantic University Saturday afternoon at FAU Ballpark.

Delaware (2-3) received another strong start from junior Kyle Hinton who pitched six innings allowing just a two-run home run to Florida Atlantic (5-1) designated hitter Gunner Lambert.

The Blue Hens, who recorded five hits, scored their lone run of the game in the seventh when designated hitter Mike Krusinski drove home Diaz Nardo from second base on a line drive single. Delaware will close out the opening road trip of the year Sunday afternoon at 12 Noon. Freshman Billy Sullivan IV (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will take the mound for the Hens. He will be opposed by righty Vince Coletti, Jr.

 Delaware head coach Jim Sherman:

“Tonight was a wasted pitching performance because we got great efforts out of Hinton, [Colman] Vila and [Clay] Conaway. We really could not have asked for better performances from our pitchers. Hinton was lights out and really just made that one mistake [the two-run HR] when he left a fastball over the plate. Other than that he was basically perfect. And then we got another two good outings from our bullpen. Again today we couldn’t get any big hits. We left a pair of runners in scoring position in the third and a few times in the game. We pinch-hit [James] Meeker in the ninth and he just missed hitting a ball out. We’ll get going offensively, but we’re struggling a bit right now. We have to battle back and salvage one game tomorrow when we throw Billy who was electric in his first outing. Tomorrow we expect more of the same from him.”

• Delaware falls to 1-1 in games decided by one run.
• Hinton has allowed just three earned runs in 10.0 IP (2.70 ERA).
• The Hens received another two scoreless innings from the bullpen. Delaware relievers have no allowed just two earned runs in 19.1 innings of work (0.93 ERA).
• Delaware falls to 2-1 when allowing two runs or fewer.
