RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware women’s basketball was predicted to finish fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Poll, as announced Thursday by the CAA.
Additionally, junior Nicole Enabosi (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) was picked as a Preseason All-CAA First Team selection.
James Madison was picked to win it all in 2017 with 78 points and six first place votes according to a vote of the league’s 10 head coaches. Behind the Dukes were defending champion Elon (74; 3) and William & Mary (58) while Drexel was fourth with 51 points and one first place vote. The Blue Hens garnered 48 points while Northeastern was sixth with 47 and Hofstra was seventh with 43. Towson and UNCW tied for eighth with 19 points and the College of Charleston rounded out the voting in 10th place with 13 points.
Under first-year head coach Natasha Adair, the Hens look to bounce back from a 2016-17 campaign in which Delaware finished 16-14 overall and 10-8 in league play before falling in the CAA quarterfinals. UD returns three starters and eight letter winners from last season while adding three newcomers for the upcoming year.
Enabosi, a two-year starter and letter winner for Delaware, was an All-CAA First Team and All-Defensive Team selection following a tremendous sophomore slate in 2016-17. The forward led the Hens in five statistical categories and also ranked in the Top 10 of seven CAA categories. Enabosi averaged a double double of 13.7 points and 10.0 rebounds and was 17th amongst all NCAA Division I players with 16 double doubles.
Elon’s Shay Burnett was selected as the CAA Preseason Player of the Year.
Conference play tips off on December 29 as the Blue Hens travel to Philadelphia to take on Drexel before hosting Elon at the Bob Carpenter Center on January 5. All 10 teams will head to the 2018 CAA Women’s Basketball Championship, held March 7-10, at Drexel’s Daskalakis Athletic Center in Philadelphia.
