RICHMOND, Va. – All week last week, the talk amongst the University of Delaware coaching staff was that they felt like junior faceoff specialist Jake Hervada was about to have a big performance.

Hervada made that talk come to fruition last Saturday against Monmouth, having a career day to lead the Blue Hens to a 15-11 triumph over the Hawks to earn Delaware’s first 3-0 start since 2011.

“Jake was terrific all game long and really helped set the tone for a near complete first half that gave us some breathing room early in the game,” Head Coach Ben DeLuca said. “He’s been working really hard in practice and it paid off with an outstanding day on Saturday.”

In the win, Hervada won a career-high 21 faceoffs in 28 attempts, including the first nine faceoffs of the game, to help the Blue Hens grab an early 6-1 lead.

His 21 facoff wins were the most by a Blue Hen in 11 years and the fifth-highest single-game total in the NCAA this season.

In addition to his dominance at the X, he grabbed a career-high 11 ground balls and added an assist in the Blue Hen victory.

Hervada and his teammates return to Delaware Stadium this Saturday to host #7 Villanova. Game time on LSN is set for 1 p.m.
