GILBERT, Ariz. – With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the Blue Hens fell one spot to No. 8 in this week’s Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Coaches Poll.
Delaware (13-4, 6-0 CAA) received 746 points following wins at Hoftra and Northeastern by a combined score of 11-1.
The top six remained the same while Connecticut maintained its unbeaten record at 17-0 to accumulate 1,092 points and 39 first place votes to stay at the No. 1 spot in the poll.
The rest of the top six includes No. 2 Duke (15-2), No. 3 Michigan (17-2), No. 4 Virginia (15-3), No. 5 Penn State (15-3) and No. 6 North Carolina (13-4). The bottom half of the top ten consists of No. 7 Maryland (13-5), No. 9 Northwestern (14-5) and No. 10 Louisville (12-6).
The final Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll of the season will be announced on Tuesday, November 7. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches, and has no bearing on selection to the 2017 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.
The CAA regular season champion for the second straight season, the top-seeded Hens will take on fourth-seeded Northeastern (8-11, 3-3 CAA) in back-to-back contests, as Delaware hosts the Huskies at 3 p.m. Friday in the first game of the CAA semifinals at Fred P. Rullo Stadium. No. 15 James Madison (12-5, 5-1 CAA) and No. 19 William & Mary (12-6, 4-2 CAA) will face off in the day’s other semifinals contest at 6 p.m. Sunday’s championship game is slated for a 1 p.m. start time.
