RICHMOND, Va. – After notching her first career goal in Delaware’s 4-1 victory over Charleston Sunday, Blue Hen red shirt freshman Andrea Gunderson was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week Monday.

Gunderson (West Chester, Pa./WC Bayard Rustin) scored her first collegiate goal from 25 yards out in the 29th minute and then picked up the first assist of her career on Mary Aleixo’s goal midway through the second half.

“Andrea had a terrific week of practice leading into last weekend’s games,” said University of Delaware head coach Scott Grzenda. “It was great that her hard work paid off with an outstanding performance this weekend. Her goal against Charleston was definitely class.”

Gunderson shared her rookie of the week honor with Hannah Lopiccolo of Northeastern. Sophomore Mackenzie Dowd of Northeastern was named CAA Player of the Week.

The Blue Hens opened up CAA play with a pair of convincing 4-1 victories at home against UNCW and Charleston.  UD was one of only three CAA teams to sweep the opening weekend of conference play and will return to action Saturday on the road against Drexel who also started conference play 2-0 with a sweep of the UNCW/Charleston weekend home stand.
